Heather Ingram is duty manager at Kong Adventure in Keswick.
We are an indoor and outdoor venue. Indoors we’ve got our children’s hard play for younger ones aged two up to eight or nine and then we’ve got our Krazy Kong, which is the, fun themed Climbing Walls. It’s great fun for introducing kids to climbing. Then we’ve got our main climbing and bouldering wall.
We also run outdoor activities, such as Ghyll Scrambling, Via Ferrata, Climbing the Mine and Outdoor Rock Climbing. There’s always something to do at Kong Adventure.
We get everyone from people who’ve never been to the Lakes before and are here for the first time, to locals who’ve lived and grown up here, but still want that adventure element with the reassurance of having instructors there to do activities that are a bit out of their comfort zone.
I’m originally from East Yorkshire, but I moved here when I went to university and never really left. I just love being in the mountains, I can go climbing, mountain biking or walking - there’s always something to do and you never get bored.
It’s great when you’ve been out on a session, whether it’s with a bunch of kids who’ve never been climbing before and they come out at the end of it with a great big smile on their face, to taking a family out Ghyll Scrambling. A lot of the time my job feels like I am getting paid to go out playing and it’s great fun to see people having a great time doing things they wouldn’t normally do.
We felt that the Lake District Pound is very unique to our region and we like the fact it is for all independent businesses in the Lake District and gives us an added element of attraction to people. It just seemed to make sense to us.
