Meet Sarah, director of the Lake District Foundation

“The Lake District is a national and global treasure, a magical place where everyone can feel inspired, relaxed and exhilarated.

“Our job at the Lake District Foundation is to make sure this can happen in a way that preserves our stunning environment and landscape and where businesses and communities work together for the good of our wildlife and cultural heritage.

“We take the money that visitors, businesses and others donate and put it towards projects like Fix the Fells, which works constantly to repair the Lake District’s hundreds of miles of footpaths, or the campaign to reinstate the railway path from Keswick to Threlkeld.

“The people who live in the Lake District and Cumbria hold the area dear to their hearts, but we know there is a much wider community of people across the world who have a deep connection with this area and its people. The Lake District Pound is a way that anyone who loves the Lake District can help look after it.

“If just a tiny proportion of the millions of people who visit the area each year took home one LD£ as a memento of their time here, then that could create hundreds of thousands of pounds that we can put towards keeping it special. It’s a great way to show your love for the area and have fun at the same time.”
