“When people visit the Lake District and Cumbria, they are rightly blown away by the beauty of the landscape and the depth of the area’s history and culture.

“But what people don’t always realise about Cumbria is that as well as being home to some of the greatest gems our country has to offer, there are also communities and people in great need of help and support.

“That’s why I am thrilled that, as well as creating a fun and unique experience for all our visitors, the Lake District pound will generate funds that we at the Cumbria Community Foundation can use to help those most in need in our region.

“At the foundation we help people who care put their money towards causes that really matter - whether it’s buying the equipment kids in Carlisle need to play sport or helping whole communities get back on their feet after the devastating floods of December 2015.

“if you choose to spend the Lake District Pound in our local businesses you’re helping support and preserve the people and communities we hold dear.

At the same time, every time you choose to keep some LD£ currency as a memento of your time in the Lakes then you are helping Cumbria Community Foundation with this really vital work.

“However you enjoy the Lake District Pound you are playing an important part in our local community and, whether you’re from Bolton or Beijing, you are part of the global family of people who love this area.”
