If there is one thing that we want the Lake District Pound to be, then that’s fun for everybody!
That’s why when we were getting ready for launch on May 1, we tried to create a great day of activities that will involve as many people as we possibly can across as many of our wonderful communities as we could.
The day will begin with the first ever purchase with an LD£, which we’ll use to buy a ticket for a steamer across Ullswater, complete with a champagne breakfast and some of the best views in the world...
Next we’ll jump on three Mountain Goat buses for a tour over Kirkstone pass to Windermere and Bowness, where we’ll be making the first ever purchase with LD£ at Windermere Lake Cruises.
But there’s a twist! Everywhere where we stop on our tour we’ll be looking for lucky members of the public who we can shout a ticket on a steamer, a cup of coffee, a piece of cake, or whatever else they happen to be buying! All purchased with the brand new LD£.
After Windermere Lake Cruises, we’ll continue our journey via The Terrace Cafe at Brantwood, Rattle Ghyll Cafe in Ambleside, Herdy and Sam Read Bookseller in Grasmere and finally to Keswick.
In Keswick all the wonderful and supportive businesses have even laid on a small street party, complete with our own special cake from Laura in the Lakes. Then, as if things could get any better, we’ll head to Theatre by the Lake, where KAOS Operatic Society are putting on a special LD£ themed show just for us!
We can’t thank everyone enough for all the help they have put in to making it a day to remember. But this is just the beginning! There is so much more fun to come, as we make sure every LD£ gives back the love we’ve been shown to help keep the Lake District, Cumbria and its communities special!
