Nigel from Windermere Post Office
“The Post Office is really important for the community. It always has been. It’s a trusted brand, dating back hundreds of years. You look on the high street and other brands have come and gone. We have had to change over the years, but when people see the Post Office they know they can trust it."
You can swap your Sterling for LD£ at exchange points across the Lakes, including most Post Offices.
We caught up with Nigel from Windermere Post Office to find out why they're at the heart of our communities.
“I moved here about six years ago and it was really a matter of location, location, location!
"I used to come on holidays as a teenager and when we were looking at buying a Post Office and a few were on the market Windermere was perfect.
“It was a great opportunity to grow the business as well. We did a lot of work to refurbish the business and make it a lot more open plan and pleasant and add a retail element to it. Obviously the Lake District Pound is another great addition to that retail side of the business.

“With banks closing in rural areas, a lot of people now have to do their personal and business banking with us. It’s a facility that provides a service for people six days a week.
“I like the interaction with customers and being able to help them out and build a bond. They know us and give us great feedback on the work we do. It’s important for some people to have that regular interaction and that point of contact in the community. To have that sort of rapport with them is wonderful.
“On a Sunday I like to get out for a walk. It’s great to get out, even if it’s just a 20 minute walk up to the top of Orrest Head right on your doorstep. You can see everything and take in that fresh Lake District air and the views all the way down to Ambleside. You wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.
“We’re so lucky to live here and have it on our doorstep and be able to enjoy it and embrace it.”
